Weekend Edition

Last Updated: 12:30 PM Sunday

  • Rosslyn saw heavy crowds on Sunday:

  • WMATA said they’d open early for the Marine Corps Marathon - they never said anything about running trains.

@wmata issue is you dont understand how many ppl come for this race - more than rush hour in DC. Packed w/no train. twitter.com/krispachla/sta…

  • Perfectly good pizza wasted.

  • Police chase ends with 2 wrecked Metro buses and 10 injured. (via @WTOP)
  • WMATA GM Sarles tells WTOP that they’re spending $800 million this year to rebuild MetroRail…. but going forward it will only be $1 million a year. Huh?
UPDATE: Turns out @WTOP reporters don’t read their own articles… $1 million has been updated (without correction notice) to $1 billion:

  • What do WMATA platform pylons dress as for Halloween? People, of course.

  • GreaterGreaterWashington founder David Alper had a mouthful to say about WMATA at Georgetown’s Graduate Student Organization meeting.
  • Mitt catches the “Momentum” (not to be confused with Obama’s “Forward”). How does WMATA predict the candidate slogans?

Weekend Track Work Notes:

*MetroRail will open at 5 AM on Sunday (except for Arlington which opens at 8).

Red Line: 2 single-track areas (between Twinbrook and Grosvenor and between Forest Glen and Takoma) have trains running every 24 minutes. Between 9 AM and 9 PM trains run every 10-12 minutes between Grosvenor and Fort Totten. Got it?

Orange Line: Single-tracking between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly has trains running every 20 minutes all weekend.

Blue Line: On Saturday there will be single-tracking between Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street resulting in Blue Line trains every 20 minutes. On Sunday it’s on a normal weekend schedule.

Green Line: Single-tracking between Greenbelt and College Park means add 10 minutes to your commute.

Yellow Line: The Yellow Line will run to Fort Totten all weekend.

Also - there’s a hurricane coming.
