Transit Calendar - Week of January 7th

Lots of “get involved” type meetings coming up. I’m a big believer in putting your time where your complaints are so mark your calendar and try to make a couple of these:

1/7 - 5:30 PM - WMATA HQ: Accessibility Advisory Council (AAC) meeting.

1/8 - 7:30 PM - Silver Spring: Action Committee for Transit (ACT) meeting (the Purple Line folks).

1/9 - 6:30 PM - WMATA HQ: Riders’ Advisory Council (RAC) meeting.

Did I miss anything? Tweet me and let me know: @FixWMATA

Next ACT Meeting

I just received an email from ACT (Action Committee for Transit: Montgomery County’s Advocates for Better Transportation) about their next meeting. Below are all the details.

We invite you to join us at the upcoming meeting of Action Committee for Transit on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 7:30 pm.

Our guest speaker will be Bob LaCroix, Chief of Corridor Development, Amtrak to speak about “Amtrak’s plans for the Northeast Corridor and Union Station”. Mr. LaCroix is in charge of Amtrak’s northeast corridor planning with the goal of developing high-speed rail that would go from Washington, DC to New York City in 1 hr 35 mins and from Washington to Boston in 3 hrs 15 mins. He will also talk about the plan announced in July for a $7 billion expansion of Union Station.

ACT’s monthly meetings are held at the DHHS Silver Spring Center, 8818 Georgia Ave 20910, in the Woodside Conference Room.

The Silver Spring Center is located on the northwest corner of Georgia Ave and Spring St, just south of Ballard St and east of 1st Ave. Enter the building on the Georgia Ave side. Enter the parking lot from Ballard St next to the big Woodside Methodist Church.

It is a ten minute walk north of the Silver Spring Metro Station; it is a two-block walk from the nearest Ride-On #5 stop; and, the Metrobus “Q” and “Y” routes pass in front of the Center.

Will We Get A MARC World Series?

On October 3rd ACT sent a letter to Ralign Wells of the Maryland Transit Administration asking that he plan for expanded MARC service in the event that the Nationals and Orioles both make the World Series. “The Action Committee for Transit urges MTA to use this opportunity to make a potential Orioles – Nationals series a MARC series rather than a Gladys Noon Spellman/Baltimore – Washington Parkway series.” For the whole letter go to: http://www.actfortransit.org/archives/letters/2012Oct03LtrMARCWorldSeries.html .
